This issue marks the latest step forward in the twenty-five year progress of SURPLUS RECORD.
The change in appearance, apparent at first glance, is the result of other and perhaps more important changes in the makeup of the magazine.
One important effect of the printing change is the increased speed with which readers will get the magazine. You will receive the latest offerings of dealers at least a week sooner than formerly was possible. This means that you can rely on SURPLUS RECORD even more than in the past for complete, accurate, up-to-date listings.
The new binding will make it easy for you to identify SURPLUS RECORD from the backbone. It also gives each issue a longer life. These two factors combine to enable you to file back issues for easy reference. The new binding also will help us to improve the reading matter and advertisements for your increased information.
In this issue you also will find a reinstatement of the SURPLUS RECORD Buyers’ Service Bureau. This Bureau was started in SURPLUS RECORD in 1924, but in recent years has been maintained on a more-or-less stand-by basis. However, as a result of a survey among industrial buyers, this free buyers’ service has been reactivated to enable you to locate machines that you don’t find advertised. You are invited to use this service as frequently as you wish. There is absolutely no obligation.
In connection with the Buyers’ Service Bureau, and on the same page, you will find two direct-action postcards which will facilitate your contacting any SURPLUS RECORD advertiser immediately. These postcards can be filled in and mailed direct to any advertiser in the publication.
SURPLUS RECORD thus continues its constant improvement of its service to readers.
These efforts have been evident from the very inception of the magazine in 1924. In order to locate used and rebuilt equipment prior to the founding of SURPLUS RECORD, it was necessary for buyers to look through any number of magazines which carried such advertising as an afterthought. To make buying easy, SURPLUS RECORD consolidated this type of advertising under one cover, and during the intervening years, has become the standard reference for buyers of used and rebuilt equipment.
SURPLUS RECORD is proud of its reputation as, “THE Magazine of Used and Rebuilt Machinery.” These most recent improvements help maintain our right to continue to deserve that reputation.
