Skookum 500-Ton Cold Flow Press / Cable Swage Press — Model 500
A heavy-duty hydraulic cold flow (swaging) press manufactured by The Skookum Company Inc., Portland, Oregon. This type of press is used to cold-form swaged sleeves and terminal fittings onto wire rope/cable — the cable end is fitted with a metal sleeve or socket, placed between the press dies, and the press applies up to 500 tons of squeezing force to permanently compress ("cold flow") the fitting onto the cable, creating a high-strength swaged termination. This process is standard in the rigging, crane, marine, logging, and oil & gas industries for producing wire rope slings, chokers, and cable assemblies.
Four-post hydraulic frame construction, integral hydraulic power unit (pump/motor assembly with reservoir), pressure gauge mounted on the crown, and hand-operated hydraulic controls. Skookum 500 Ton Cold Flow Press, Model 500, Serial No. 9D356. Made in USA, manufactured and distributed by The Skookum Company Inc., Portland, Oregon.
Includes matching hydraulic power unit/pump package as pictured.
Recognizable as a Skookum-built unit by the distinctive blue-and-red painted frame and cast bronze Skookum nameplate on the crown — commonly sought as a swaging press, cold flow press, cable swager, or wire rope termination press for rigging/sling fabrication.
