Ever since the inception of SURPLUS RECORD the main intent and purpose of the publication has been to make it an exclusive reference guide for surplus industrial equipment. To this extent it has performed a real service. During the fifteen years of its existence the publication has each year become more representative of the used machinery industry. In fact, it is looked upon by many as the unofficial voice of the industry. We have tried to recognize this responsibility and have been ever alert to making improvements which will enable the publication to better serve its purpose.
With this thought in mind, we are inaugurating with the May issue an editorial content which will bring closer together the buyers and sellers of used and rebuilt equipment. News items and articles pertaining to this field will be published, as well as material which will enable the buyers of machinery to profit by the experience of industry in general in handling their machinery problems.
The primary intent of this editorial matter will be to create a more active interest in the surplus equipment business, to reflect its vital importance and to inspire a better understanding and acceptance of its manifold services to general industry.
It is a recognized fact that the used machinery dealer serves as an economic factor in industry by absorbing surplus equipment, reconditioning and reselling it. He performs an indispensable service which helps to stabilize and protect the capital investment of industry and saves millions of dollars of original investments by seeking out markets for surplus industrial equipment. To the end that these facts may be more generally appreciated the inclusion of editorial matter in SURPLUS RECORD will be a constructive step forward.
