Unlike horizontal boring mills, which have a rotating work spindle parallel to the ground, vertical boring mills feature a vertically oriented stationary work spindle that is lowered into a rapidly rotating workpiece mounted on a chuck to remove material. Vertical boring mills are ideal for smaller workpieces due to the orientation of the work spindle, which usually limits the workpiece’s size to the table’s dimensions.
