Eddy current testing systems use electromagnetic induction to inspect metal bars, tubes, wire, and rod for surface and near-surface defects such as cracks, seams, laps, and inclusions at high production speeds, without cutting, damaging, or altering the part. They are widely used in steel mills, tube and pipe mills, wire-drawing operations, and automotive, aerospace, fastener, and bearing manufacturing for in-line quality control and final inspection. This equipment is also known as eddy current flaw detectors, EC/ET test lines, or non-destructive testing (NDT) inspection systems, and is often referred to by popular brand and model names like the Foerster Defectomat, Circograph, and Magnatest, or Magnetic Analysis Corp (MAC) Echomac lines.
