A lapping machine rubs two surfaces together with an abrasive between them to obtain products with an exceptionally high degree of flatness, parallelism, and thickness. A single plate lapping machine typically consists of a rotary lap plate with loose or embedded abrasive materials used to machine workpieces contained in a conditioning ring. Workpieces are pressed down against the rotating lap plate by a heavy weight disc that rotates the workpiece in the opposite direction as the lap plate, causing material removal through the rolling and sliding action of the abrasive between the lap plate and the workpiece.
