Photos: The photos show the machine at the original owners location after it was cleaned out and put for sale. The photos showing it assembled with ducting are at the current location refurbished and under power. Unit is in very good condition with new carbon, updated controls and new ducting.
The carbon adsorption unit (CAU) removes Trichloroethylene (TCE) from the degreaser air emissions by adsorbing TCE onto Three carbon beds. Its is approx 99% efficent. The carbon beds are cycled so only two are adsorbing at any one time. The third bed is either, desorbing, cooling down, or idling. The desorb cycle steam strips the TCE from a fully adsorbed bed. Once this is complete, the bed cools down and then idles. The time intervals for each cycle are as follows:
Adsorb: 6.00 Hrs
Desorb: 1.00 Hr
Cooldown: 0.25 Hr
Idle: 1.75 Hrs
A heat exchanger is located behind the CAU near the middle of the bed. Cooling water (city water or a chiller, chiller is not included but we could source from our stock) controlled by a solenoid valve flows through the heat exchanger. The valve is only in the open position when a carbon bed is in the desorb or cooldown mode. The heat exchanger condenses steam laden with TCE which then drains to a TCE/Water separator. Water mixed with small amounts of TCE automatically drains ti the CAU wastewater treatment system (WWTS). Reclaimed concentrated TCE drains to a receiver tank (behind the first carbon bed) and is then pumped to our degreaser stainless steel stabilization tank next to the still.
The CAU WWTS is a three compartment unit which collects wastewater from the CAU. Heavy concentrated TCE sinks in a first tank, which must be removed daily or weekly, the remaining water is then air and stream stripped so that residual TCE is volatilized. Wastewater is then pumped through two blue drums (carbon beds) and discharged into a trench system that drains to a plantwide waste treatment system. It is extremely important to keep TCE out of your plantwide wastewater system treatment system so take care to prevent spills when draining any portion of the CAU WWTS into drums, ETC. Near any trenches.
