This reduces the load on the motor, saving operating cost, instead of dampening the airflow with an outlet damper that is required on other starter options -- On system shutdown, the VFD slows the fan down to a preset speed of 20 HZ for 5 minutes (the duration of the downtime cleaning cycle).
