1.00" X 160" Single Spindle Gundrill
Basic Overview and Features
Machine base is constructed from two high quality thermal stress relieved weldments. Internal ribs provide a stable and rigid base. Bases are doweled after alignment large coolant troughs remove coolant and chips to the recovery area of the coolant system.
Way systems: consists of precision crossed roller type ways and slide units with precision saddles. Mounting surfaces are hand scraped and ways are laser aligned.
Spindle is manufactured from high quality alloy steel, heat-treated and precision ground, mounted in class #7 bearings and permanently lubricated. Spindle is laser aligned parallel to ways and centered to chip box bores. Spindle is equipped with a rotary coolant union. Spindle bore is 1.250 I.D. X 2-750 deep. Included are one 1.000 I.D., one 0.750 and one 0.500" I.D. spindle reducers.
Spindle drive is provided by a 5-H.P. AC motor with variable speed. Power transmission is provided by timing gear belts and pulleys.
Feeds are provided by ballscrew, AC servomotor, timing gear belts and pulleys providing feed rates to 24 inches per minute with rapid traverse.
Chip box: Chip box is constructed from thermal stress relieved weldments. Chip box bores are laser aligned parallel to the way systems. The face of the chip box is equipped with pneumatic bushing carrier to advance and retract the drill bushing to the work piece face. Chips and coolant exit the recovery area of the coolant system.
Lubrication: Spindles are permanently grease lubricated. Ways and ball screws are grease lubricated at periodic intervals.
Coolant filtration system has a total capacity of 200 gallons with two separate reservoirs, one for contaminated return coolant and one for clean filtered coolant. The high-pressure pump system consists of one 15 H.P. AC motor driving a 15 GPM high-pressure pump with maximum pressure of 2,000 PSI @ 10 GPM. Filtration is accomplished through a centrifugal pump which pumps contaminated coolant from the return reservoir to the supply reservoir through a two stage filtration system consisting of one 5-micron & one 10-micron bag type filters. A shell/tube water heat exchanger or air/oil heat exchanger is standard. (Water source is required for shell tube) An optional refrigerant type oil chiller maintains coolant at set temperature. An optional chip conveyor installed in the lower reservoir removes chips as they exit from the chip box.

CNC Control
Electrical and CNC control utilizes a Heidenhain TNC 320 CNC control. The TNC 320 is a compact contouring control for drilling machines with 3 controlled axes. The control is workshop oriented using the Heidenhain interactive plain language dialog, or it can be programmed using standard ISO M and G codes. Standard features include:

A Nema 12 enclosure houses all motor starters, fuses, disconnect, etc. Maximum travel limit switches to prevent over travel on all axes. An operator station with display and drill condition monitor to shut down machine in the case of dull or broken drills. The control monitors critical machine functions, coolant, hydraulic and air pressure.
Positioning of Rotary axis is controlled by AC servo with encoder. Following axis is controlled by servo driven rack & pinion with encoder. Drill axis is controlled by servo driven ball-screw with encoder.
